About me
Shelly Vroegh, the 2017 Iowa Teacher of the Year, currently serves as the Elementary Teaching & Learning Coordinator for the Norwalk Community School District in Norwalk, Iowa. Shelly's career began as a special education teacher before transitioning to a classroom educator, where she taught second, third, and fifth grades. With a deep passion for supporting both students and fellow educators, Shelly has played a key role in Norwalk’s educational community. She has served as a lead mentor, curriculum leader for elementary math and science, summer school coordinator, and instructional coach, all before assuming her current leadership role in the district.Shelly earned her Associate of Arts Degree from Waldorf College, followed by a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Northern Iowa. She later pursued a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership with Principal Licensure from Walden University.Outside of her professional work, Shelly enjoys traveling, attending concerts, and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes with her husband, Troy, and their two sons, Mitch and Connor.
